What you can expect when buying at Holloway’s

We want to give our buyers a great buying experience. Whilst we always encourage buyers to view the sale in person, we recognise that it is increasingly common for buyers to rely on the internet. We are committed to continually improving our service to meet the needs of the long distance buyer so if you feel we could improve any aspect of our service then please let us know.

Our sales are on view for three days before the sale and we always hold a Saturday morning viewing.

Request a condition report and additional images

Whilst we always recommend you view a sale in person we recognise that it’s not always possible. We are therefore more than happy to provide you with a condition report and any additional images you may require other than those already illustrated in the online catalogue.

Ways to bid

Leave your bid with us

You can leave an absentee or commission bid stating the maximum amount you would like the auctioneer to bid up to on your behalf for a lot. You can either complete a form when you’re viewing, call or email us with your details.

To find out whether you have won your lot the sales results are posted on our website a few days after the sale. If you have provided us with an email address, if successful, you will receive an email after the sale.

On the telephone

You can bid via a person on the telephone acting as your bidder in the room. You will be called approximately 5 lots before your lot. In the event we are unable to connect or signal is lost, you can leave a commission bid on registration.

We will only accept registrations for telephone bids made by 4pm the day before the auction and for lots with a low estimate over £80.

Online – Live

You can register via the-saleroom.com  and bid live online while the sale is in progress. This service attracts an additional 3% charge, plus VAT.

All our sales are conducted on our conditions of sale.

Register your details on the day and you will be given a paddle with a number. Use this to bid.

Buyers premium

Each lot purchased is subject to a Buyer’s premium of 20% plus VAT.

Debit or credit card

We do accept card payments over the telephone.

Credit card payments are subject to a 2% surcharge plus VAT. We do not accept American Express.

Cash

We accept cash up to a maximum of £5,000

Cheque

We can accept cheques but you can only collect your items once the cheque has cleared. Please note there is an 8 working day clearance time.

You must pay for and collect your items no later than 3 working days after the sale. No lot can be collected prior to making payment. After which time all lots will be removed to an external storage, you will be charged and you will need to arrange a collection time.

Collections can be made during the auction but only where practical.

Postage and packaging

Holloway’s do not provide a postage and packaging service but the following carriers operate in our area.  We would always recommend professional fine art carriers
