A little about us

There has been an auction house at Parsons Street in Banbury since the early seventies, initially trading as Buckle and Ballard Fine Art under the direction of the late Tim Holloway, who subsequently bought the business himself and continued trading under his own name.
After qualifying as a barrister in 1978, I worked for nearly 30 years in the City. I have collected English watercolours and drawings since the 1980s and my wife worked at Christie's before we were married, so when I heard that Tim wanted to sell his business I saw a perfect opportunity to change career and move out of London.
I am committed to providing a specialised auction service for the middle market. Our ethos is simple: we know that most furniture and general antiques will fetch as much or more in a properly run provincial sale room as they will in London. However, there are some highly specialised items that do need the profile and expertise of the major London salerooms to maximise their potential, while others – such as toys and some collectors' items - may benefit from the exposure provided by a specialist auction house. It makes obvious sense for us to transfer good examples of such items into these specialised hands.

Contact us in the first instance and we will ensure that your property is offered in the most suitable sale room. Our Banbury sale rooms are the location of choice for the vast majority of antique furniture and works of art and this is where most consignments will be offered. When we come across exceptional items we will recommend the best location for their sale, arrange their transfer and oversee their sale on your behalf.
The same attention to detail is given to the sale or disposal of secondary household goods, reproduction furniture and so on. Although we don't handle these goods we pass them on to a specialist household clearance auctioneer so that we can provide a total service for you, supervised all the way by us.
